Serge Gainsbourg :: Le Poinçonneur Des Lilas (Live 1959)

The song opens with the line, "je suis le poinçonneur des Lilas" or "I am the ticket puncerh of Lilas Station". I love the depressing irony of the song; it just seems so French. Afterwards, you can watch an earlier video with subtitles here. "Des petits trous, des petits trous, des petits trous..."

NEW Florence + The Machine

Here's a new song from Florence + The Machine's upcoming and as of yet untitled album, which is set to release in early November. According to Ms. Welch, the sophmore effort will put more emphasis on having a cohesive sound. In an interview for Pitchfork she says, "With Lungs,... there were so many different influences, and the differences between a song like "Kiss With a Fist" and "Dog Days" are huge. With this record,... it's like taking everything from the first album that seemed quite separate and making them whole." For this Florence has turned to Paul Epworth (Adele, Bloc Party) who contributed on her debut with Blessing and Cosmic Love. I can hardly wait for the album to drop. If the video fails you can find the link below.

Charles Bradley :: Heatache & Pain

This was filmed just outside of Outside Lands, presumably on Sunday the day he opened the main stage. Man, people just don't sing like this anymore. Amazing.

Aloe Blacc :: I Need A Dollar & Your Love Is Killing Me

Man the dance moves in this are crazy! Baby Boogaloo is the most adorable lil kid ever!

George Benson :: Give Me The Night

Smooth and funky, this is baby makin' music!

Guadalupe Plata :: Boogie De La Muerte

A friend sent me this and I just love it. Thanks a lot!

The Weeknd

Okay, this is LONG overdue. I really haven't been on my game since I am just now posting on this artist, but if you haven't heard of The Weeknd yet you need to now.

Here are some tracks and if you dig 'em you can download his self-released free album, House Of Ballons, from his site here. The first two tracks are from House Of Balloons, the third and fourth are from an unreleased sophomore effort and a Drake remix respectively.

DJ Shadow :: Stem/ Long Stem / Transmission 2

My favorite act from the Pitchfork Music Festival. DJ shadow is a legend. His debut album Endtroducing, which this track is on, is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the first album entirely composed of samples. DJ Shadow's ground breaking concept album was recorded from '94 - '96 at San Francisco's Glue Factory. And on the cover is Lyrics Born and Chief Xcel in a Sacramento record shop. Pretty fucking rad.

Notorious B.I.G. :: Young G's Perspective (J Period Remix)

Sooooo smoooth. I can't find the sample, but this remix is off the INCREDIBLE March 9 mixtape. Grab the it here.

Madvillian :: Fancy Clown (ft Viktor Vaughn)

Madvillian is the collaboration of MF Doom and Madlib. But this song is written as Viktor Vaughn, Doom's real name, and it's about how his girl is cheating on him with his alter ego Metal Face Doom, hence "tin head". Fucking great. Wish it was longer. If you want to dig the sample click here.

Bobby :: Ginger (Water Birth)

Made In Heights :: Skylark Interabang

Great track. Dig the Sufjan Stevens sample.

Mixtape Club

Found these guys from the San Francisco Mixtape Society and they've got some solid mixes up. According to their webist, The Mixtape Club is an organization dedicated to the art of the mixtape. Ten people, ten tracks, ten album covers every month, pretty fucking rad. I've been digging Flapjack's 17 (probably because I actually know and like all the artists he's chosen), but all the others I've checked out have been rewarding. Here's a link to Flapjack's stream, check out a few others while you're there.

Eleanor Friedberger :: My Mistakes

Had to delete and re-post this one, apparently the previous media player was causing trouble and slowing down computers. Should be better now.

Video: tUnE-yArDs :: Doorstep (live in Paris) & Gansta (live Jimmy Fallon)

The first is just absolutely beautiful. And the second one is amazing. Jimmy Fallon continues to impress me with his late night music guests.

Album: Bodies Of Water :: Twist Again

I've been digging Bodies Of Water's newest album Twist Again for awhile now. For a few days it was free to download, but sadly it is no longer available for free. However, you can still stream it online for free. Check it out here and if you like, consider supporting the artists.

Strokes Tribute

To commemorate The Strokes 10 year Anniversary of Is This It? music blog Stereogum compiled a free digital tribute album featuring indie artists like The Morning Benders, Peter, Bjorn and John, Heem (from Das Racist) and more. It's a fun album and you can grab it off their website here. Enjoy.
