Coachella # 49 -- The Weeknd
The Weeknd :: The Knowing
The Weeknd :: High For This
A perfect opener.
The Weeknd :: What You Need (Unofficial)
Super Excited for the Weeknd. Probably the artist I'm looking forward to seeing most at Coachella. They follow, and champion, this recent trend of revealing the emotional sacrifice required to thrive in the party lifestyle. This trend is also displayed on Kanye's My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy.
The Weeknd represents the darker side of R&B, depicting not only the trysts in the champagne room, but highlighting the hangover afterwards, the lonliness of the come down, the unapologetic hedonism and the collateral damage that results. Even their name reflects this subject, suggesting that they have become weakened by the weekend. Whether they mean physically weakened or morally weakened is for them to know. Also noteworthy, The Weeknd released all three of their albums (House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence) to download for free at their website here.
Dig the crazy video for "The Knowing". Shot in Jankyvision the video is raw and creative and wicked and absolutely brilliant.

Missed her performance two years ago at Coachella. That won't happen this year.
Coachella# 33 -- Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar :: A.D.H.D.
Kendrick Lamar :: Rigamortis
A member of Black Hippy. Ridiculous flow, laid back yet quick, he spits so effortlessly.
Coachella #16 -- Explosions in the Sky
This lone star state quartet are quite the rare specimen. They have a drummer, two guitarists and a bassists. No vocals. Their songs are kinda long as the build and surge, so take a minute to listen to the track. Should be a fun show, their fan base is pretty committed.
Coachella #13 -- DJ Shadow
I saw DJ Shadow at last summer in Chicago and he was off the hook. Now Pitchfork is fun, but it has nothing on the sheer enormity of Coachella. I am mucho excited to hear DJ Shadow's madness blast through 15 foot speakers. Also, his lightshow blew at Pitchfork because there was still light out during his set. In the Sahara tent? Not a problem. For music, dig on the link below.

An old friend posted this recently. Apparently, Tuvan throat singing is pretty awesome. Tuva is a Russian Federation on the Mongolian border.
